We left PEI and took a bus to a town called Moncton in the province of New Brunswick, from there we caught a train overnight to Quebec City. Tim organised a sleeper cabin so at least we could sleep the night and he was told that it was fully accessible and plenty of room. We have learnt on our travels that even the most organised plans can be interrupted by Murphy's Law. It was about to rear it's head. When we arrived on the train and shown to our sleeper, only then did we discover just how difficult this trip would be. The room was the size of a small walk in wardrobe and trying to fit a 6 foot woman, a wheelchair, a dog and luggage in this sleeper was not going to be easy. We tried to make it work several ways, almost Tetris like, but each time failed. To make matters worse they ran out of food, so we went without dinner. Poor Tim had to sleep in his chair bent over on a table that would not fold down properly as there wasn't enough room and me well I certainly was not going to fit on the bed, although I tried and didn't sleep a wink, neither did Tim and Roxy, well she was so cramped she kept trying to get comfortable which ended up being on top of me. Here is a short video of our cupboard.
Anyway 13 hours later we got to Quebec and arrived at our hotel 4 hours before we could check in. As you can imagine we were so tired and the thought of sitting around waiting for 4 hours was unbearable. We pleaded in our best french and luckily for us the concierge was able to convince the staff to get us in early, but we still could not get in for 2 hours, so we decided to go for a walk and check out this place.
Once we got into our hotel and managed to get in about 3 hours sleep we headed out exploring this beautiful city! I fell in love with Quebec, with all it's frenchness. The people were lovely and the place was old and antique with really good clothes, jewelry, food and wine!
While we were there, there was a bike race on and all the roads were blocked off and it was hard to navigate the streets but Tim loved to watch the bikes race. There are so many steep hills in Quebec it was hard to imagine these riders getting up the hills and they had to do that for 4 hours. Also the next day was a the celtic festival so we got to see a parade of scottish bagpipe bands and celtic dancers. Quebec was alive with so much culture and beauty and our French was put to good use!
